Sheridan's Self-Knowledge Collage Poem

Christian Coseru

How best to sum up two weeks of intense philosophical disputation on the ins and outs of self-knowledge east and west than with a poem (constructed entirely out of the participants' own words). Here is Sheridan's Self-Knowledge Collage poem, bringing the institute to a exciting close:

A welcome from the project team

Philosophical traditions both East and West share a common concern with the nature of self-knowledge, and the positions that emerge in India, Tibet, and beyond mirror similar developments in the West. The aim of this Institute is to enable college and university professors to draw the research programs of primarily Indian, specifically Buddhist, and Western philosophy together for mutual benefit. By critically examining a range of arguments and perspectives from these traditions, participants will have the opportunity to develop more diverse and effective curricula. The institute also offers an opportunity for building professional relationships, and for new collaborative projects that can contribute to making philosophy more cross-culturally inclusive and cosmopolitan.
